03-02-1893: Evan “Strangler” Lewis unifies the American Greco-Roman title and the Catch-As-Catch-Can titles into the American heavyweight title which is seen as one of American pro wrestling’s first true major championship. Evan Lewis defeats Ernest Roeber in New Orleans, LA in a best of five falls match.
1893 (unspecified): Dr. Benjamin F. Roller is recognized as the first light heavyweight champion of the world, a title he claims until 1911.
