01-01-1970: Dick Murdoch defeats The Lawman (Don Slatton) in Amarillo, TX for the Southwest title.

01-03-1970: Andre the Giant makes his Japanese wrestling debut under the name Monster Rousimoff for the IWF group.

01-10-1970: Marcus “Buff” Bagwell is born.

01-13-1970: Missouri Mauler (Larry Hamilton) defeats Danny Miller for the Southern (Florida) title in Tampa.

01-16-1970: The annual Los Angeles Battle Royal is held and Rocky Johnson wins the 22 man over the top rope battle royal last eliminating the Oregon Lumberjack. Rocky Johnson then challenges Americas champion Great Kojika to a title match at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles.

01-18-1970: Monster Rousimoff (Andre the Giant) & Michael Nador defeated Great Kusatsu & Thunder Sugiyama in Fukuoka, Japan for the IWE tag team championship.

01-31-1970: Ben Justice & The Stomper (Guy Mitchell) win the Detroit NWA World tag team titles from the Skull Brothers.

02-01-1970: Japan’s IWE and America’s AWA form a working relationship.

02-03-1970: Great Kusatsu & Thunder Sugiyama defeated Monster Rousimoff (Andre the Giant) & Michael Nador for the IWE tag team titles in Hiroshima, Japan.

02-05-1970: In the first AWA World heavyweight title defense in Japan, Verne Gagne battles Shozo “Strong” Kobayashi to a double knock out draw.

02-10-1970: Jack Brisco wins the Florida title from Mr. Saito in Tampa. Also on the show, Great Mephisto & Dante win the Southern tag team titles from Buddy Fuller & Bob Roop.

02-11-1970: Toyonobori retires at an IWE card.

03-03-1970: Bob Orton wins the Southern (Florida) title from the Missouri Mauler in Tampa.

03-06-1970: Fred Blassie defeats Rocky Johnson for the Americas title in Los Angeles, CA.

03-07-1970: Baron Von Raschke wins the Indianapolis WWA World title from Dick the Bruiser. He is managed by Bobby Heenan.

03-13-1970: The Assassin (Jody Hamilton) wins the Georgia title in a tournament final over Joe Scarpa. The title had been vacated when The Professional (Doug Gilbert) was injured.

03-20-1970: An attendance record for Chattanooga, TN Memorial Auditorium is set at 6,430 to see The Interns managed by Dr. Ken Ramey battle The Spoilers managed by Saul Weingeroff to a no contest. Also on the show Tojo Yamamoto & Johnny Long defeated Mack Young & Mighty Yankee, Bob Armstrong & Bill Costello defeated Carlos Montes & Tony Russo. Some 2,000 fans are turned away.

03-21-1970: The Texas Outlaws (Dusty Rhodes & Dick Murdoch) win the Detroit NWA World tag team titles from Ben Justice & The Stomper (Guy Mitchell).

03-23-1970: Skull Murphy (John Murphy) dies.

03-29-1970: The Georgia tag team titles are declared vacant after a controversial Atlanta match between champions The Assassins (Tom Renesto & Jody Hamilton) and Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller.

04-11-1970: Dale Lewis wins the Southern (Florida) title from Bob Orton in Jacksonville.

04-12-1970: Bill Watts wins his first North American title over The Spoiler (Don Jardine) in Tulsa, OK for the Leory McGurik promotion.

04-17-1970: Nick Bockwinkel defeats The Assassin (Jody Hamilton) in Atlanta, GA for the Georgia title.

05-18-1970: Boris Malenko defeats Mil Mascaras in a Ft. Worth, TX tournament final to become the American champion.

05-29-1970: Giant Baba defeats Don Leo Jonathan to win the annual JWA World League tournament.

06-15-1970: Bruno Sammartino verses Crusher Verdu at Madison Square Garden draws a record gate of $85,716. Also on the show The Mongols (Geeto: Newton Tattrie & Bepo: Nikolai Volkoff) win the WWWF International tag team titles from Tony Marino & Victor Rivera.

06-16-1970: Hiro Matsuda wins the Southern (Florida) title from Dale Lewis in Tampa.

06-26-1970: Dick the Bruiser & Bill Miller win the WWA tag team titles from Jack & Jim Dillinger (Chris Colt) in Indianapolis.

07-1970: Greg Valentine makes his pro wrestling debut in Calgary losing to King Kong Mosca.

07-03-1970: A tournament is held in Atlanta, GA to fill the Georgia tag team titles. In the tournament are: The Professional (Doug Gilbert) & Bobby Shane, Paul DeMarco & Nick Bockwinkel, Rip Tyler & Rocket Monroe, Tito Torres & Bob Armstrong, Homer O’Dell & Buddy Colt, Terry Funk & Dory Funk Jr, The Masked Invaders, and Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller. The Professional & Bobby Shane win the finals over Homer O’Dell & Buddy Colt.

07-10-1970: Bruno Sammartino defeated Crusher Verdu at Madison Square Garden before 20,982 fans, a record for the Garden. Also, The Mongols defeated Gorilla Monsoon & Bill Miller. Jamaica Kid & Little Beaver defeated Billy the Kid & Frenchy Lamont. Jay Strongbow defeated Joe Turco. George “The Animal” Steele battled Mario Milano to a draw. Victor Rivera defeated Johnny Rodz. Jose Lois Rivera defeated Mike Conrad.

07-11-1970: Ray Stevens defeated Pat Patterson in San Francisco for the United States title.

07-13-1970: Danny Hodge loses the NWA World Junior title for the first time since 1966 to Sputnik Monroe in Shreveport, LA.

07-17-1970: The Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Don Kent) win the WWA tag team titles from Dick the Bruiser & Bill Miller in Indianapolis, IN.

Paul DeMarco defeats Nick Bockwinkel for the Georgia title in Atlanta.

07-24-1970: Nick Bockwinkel regains the Georgia title from Paul DeMarco in Atlanta, GA.

07-27-1970: Dory Funk, Jr. & Terry Funk team together in Japan for the first time and defeat All Asia tag team champions Antonio Inoki & Michiaki Yoshimura in a non title match.

08-02-1970: Dory Funk, Jr. battles Antonio Inoki to a one hour time limit draw to retain the NWA World heavyweight title.

08-08-1970: Bobo Brazil & Lord Athol Layton win the Detroit NWA World tag team titles from the Texas Outlaws- Dusty Rhodes & Dick Murdoch.

08-13-1970: Great Mephisto wins the Southern (Florida) title from Hiro Matsuda in Tampa.

08-24-1970: Tojo Yamamoto & Johnny Walker defeated The Interns for the Southern tag team titles in Memphis.

08-28-1970: The Assassins (Tom Renesto & Jody Hamilton) defeated Bobby Shane & The Professional (Doug Gilbert) for the Georgia tag team titles in Atlanta.

09-05-1970: Buddy Colt defeated Nick Bockwinkel for the Georgia title in Atlanta.

09-14-1970: Satoshi Kojima is born.

09-17-1970: Abdullah the Butcher wrestles for the first time in Japan.

Dusty Rhodes & Dick Murdoch win the Florida tag team titles from Jose Lothario & Argentina Apollo in Jacksonville.

09-22-1970: Paul Jones & Nelson Royal defeat Gene & Ole Anderson for the Mid-Atlantic tag team titles in Raleigh, NC.

09-25-1970: The Georgia tag team titles are declared vacant following a match between The Assassins (Tom Renesto & Jody Hamilton) and Bobby Shane & The Professional (Doug Gilbert) because the headgear worn by the team during the match was determined to be illegal.

10-04-1970: Heavy Metal (Eric Casas) is born. He is the son of Pepe “Tropi” Casas and the brother of Negro Casas and Felino.

10-08-1970: The first steel cage match in Japan takes place between Rusher Kimura and Dr. Death (Moose Morowski). Tokyo Broadcasting System bans the steel cage from television after this match.

10-16-1970: The Assassins (Tom Renesto & Jody Hamilton) wins a three team tournament over Mr. Ito & Great Ota and Bobby Shane & The Professional (Doug Gilbert) in Atlanta to win the Georgia tag team titles.

10-29-1970: Tarzan Tyler defeats Jack Brisco in Tampa, FL tournament final to win the Florida TV title and become the first champion.

11-09-1970: Chris Jericho (Chris Irvine) is born. He is the son of NHL hockey star Ted Irvine.

11-13-1970: Fred Blassie defeats Buddy Colt for the Georgia title in Atlanta, GA.

11-20-1970: Following a loss to NWA World champion Dory Funk, Jr. masked wrestler The Crimson Knight unmasks himself in St. Louis, MO revealing himself to be former AWA World heavyweight champion Bill Miller.

In Atlanta, GA Buddy Colt defeats Fred Blassie for the Georgia title.

11-27-1970: Ray Gunkel wins the Georgia title from Buddy Colt in Atlanta.

11-30-1970: Rene Goulett wins the Southern (Florida) title from Great Mephisto in Orlando.

12-01-1970: Dusty Rhodes defeats Jose Lothario in Tampa for the Florida Brass Knux title.

12-03-1970: Gene Kiniski defeats Giant Baba for the NWA International title in Osaka, Japan.

12-15-1970: Tarzan Tyler defeats Jack Brisco for the Florida title in Tampa.

12-18-1970: Toru Tanaka wins the American title from Fritz Von Erich in Houston, TX.

12-19-1970: Giant Baba regains the NWA International title from Gene Kiniski in Los Angeles, CA.

12-26-1970: Wilbur Snyder & Moose Cholak win their second WWA tag team championship from The Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Don Kent) in Indianapolis.
