02-09-1888: Evan “Strangler” Lewis fails to throw Jack Carkeek in the allotted fifteen minutes of a handicap match, thus Carkeek won $50 from Lewis. Later Lewis and William Muldoon put on a Greco-Roman wrestling exhibition.
1888: Ghulum Mohammad (Gama the Great) is born in Amritsar, Punjab. He would become the most famous wrestler ever out of India and one of the most famous legends in wrestling history.
