04-02-1899: Frank Gotch defeats Marshall Green in Gotch’s pro wrestling debut in Humboldt, IA winning three straight falls.

06-16-1899: Dan McLeod defeats Frank Gotch in Luverne, IA.

09-26-1899: William Barton Wright brings to the United States Yukio Tani and his brother to tour the music halls giving Jujitsu demonstrations and calling all comers. Barton Wright had been a civil engineer in Japan and had studied at Koudoukan. After returning to England he started teaching his own style martial art called Baritsu. Yukio Tani’s brother returned to Japan and was replaced by Raku Uyenishi.

11-30-1899: Kara Ahmed wins his second World Greco-Roman tournament in Paris, France.

12-18-1899: Farmer Burns defeats Frank Gotch in a famous match in Ft. Dodge, IA. This is the match where Burns claims he “discovered” Gotch and offered to take him under his wing and become his trainer. Up to this point it appears Frank Gotch wrestling record was four wins and two losses.
