Ultimate History of Pro Wrestling - A Time Line of Every Major Event in Pro Wrestling History - 1840

The following is taken from Author and Pioneer Era Pro Wrestling Historian Karl Stern’s book DragonKingKarl’s Pioneer Era Pro Wrestling Omnibus.

1840:

01-10-1840: It is reported in the Boston Post that two men: Henry McCaul and Chauncey Skinner had been involved in a wrestling match. Skinner was thrown by McCaul but disputed it. The argument turned deadly when Skinner pulled a knife and stabbed McCaul multiple times. He was arrested for murder. It was said by the newspaper that Chauncey Skinner was a known criminal previously arrested for rape and robbery.

08-05-1840: Uzile Prickett was born in Cold Run, NJ. At one point Prickett would hold a version of the “Championship of America” but would be suspected of throwing matches multiple times and ultimately was presumed murdered following a wrestling match some believed to have been faked in 1868.
