Ultimate History of Pro Wrestling - A Time Line of Every Major Event in Pro Wrestling History - 1841
The following is taken from Author and Pioneer Era Pro Wrestling Historian Karl Stern’s book DragonKingKarl’s Pioneer Era Pro Wrestling Omnibus.
1841:
01-16-1841: The New York Post reports that promoters are going to attempt to stage a revival of the original Olympic games at the Amphitheater there. Among the various sports which they will try to “faithfully portray” include wrestling.
07-07-1841: Pioneer wrestling great John McMahon is born in Bakersfield, Vermont.
DragonKingKarl Notes: Your trinity of pioneer era (pre-1900) pro wrestling in the United States are William Muldoon, Col. James. H. McLaughlin, and John McMahon. John McMahon is no relation to the modern era McMahon family which included Vince J. McMahon, Jess McMahon, and Vince K. McMahon. In biographies and online encyclopedia entries for John McMahon it is often stated that he was undefeated for 17 years. This is untrue. As you read through this book, anyone listed as having defeated John McMahon is certainly noteworthy.
