As in the Days of Noah…

Scientifically tested evidence from the proposed Noah’s Ark resting site in Turkey has been all over the news recently. I will let the news sites and scientists do what they do in terms of proving or disproving this evidence.

But what if Noah’s Ark were really found?

Not a theory. Not a rumor. Not another headline. But the actual remains of the vessel described in Genesis. Imagine standing before ancient wood, buried for thousands of years. Imagine looking at compartments, structural remains and dimensions that matched the biblical account. And then remembering the words of Jesus:

“When the Son of Man comes, it will be the same as when Noah lived.” — Matthew 24:37, NLV

The world of Noah was filled with violence and corruption. People had turned away from God. But life still looked normal. People were eating. Drinking. Marrying. Planning. Living.

Most people were not standing outside expecting judgment. They were simply busy with life. And while they were busy, Noah was building. He obeyed God when obedience made him look foolish. He trusted God when others laughed. He kept going when there was no visible reason to believe rain was coming.

Then one day, the rain began. And everything changed.

That is why Jesus’ comparison is so powerful. Our world is different in technology, but not always so different in heart. We are surrounded by violence, hatred, greed, brokenness and division. And still we live as if tomorrow is promised. We work. We shop. We scroll. We plan. We worry. We argue. We chase things that will one day mean very little. And through all of it, God is still calling.

Noah’s Ark was a place of refuge. But for Christians, our refuge today is Jesus Christ. The message of the Gospel is not simply that judgment is real. It is that mercy is available. Jesus came for the broken. The ashamed. The wandering. The weary. The person who thinks they have gone too far. The person who has not prayed in years. The person who is not sure what they believe anymore. The invitation is still open.

Maybe one day Noah’s Ark will be proven beyond doubt. Maybe the world will stand before something ancient and realize that a story it dismissed was more real than it imagined. But the greatest question will still remain:

What will we do with what God has already said?

Do not wait until you can see the rain. Do not become so busy building a life that you forget your soul. Do not mistake God’s patience for His absence. And do not believe you are too far away to come home.

Jesus is still calling. Grace is still available. And the door is still open.
