It looks like Corn but it's really candy said somebody one time.

It looks like Corn but it's really candy said somebody one time.

My least favorite Halloween candy of all time is none other than candy corn but despite the fact that I hate it in all its chewy, waxy glory, it holds the top spot in most states in America as "favorite Halloween candy" yuk!

Love It or Hate It?

WHY? Is candy corn so popular?

The waxy coated tri-colored candy was supposedly invented by a man named George Renninger who was working at the Wunderlee Candy Company in Philadelphia, PA.

It was invented in the 1800's and was first called "chicken feed" because it resembled kernels of corn. Interestingly enough it started being manufactured by a company named Goelitz Confectionery Co. which today is widely know as Jelly Belly.

The main ingredients remain the same today as back in the 1800s consisting of sugar, corn syrup & marshmallow. They were stirred in large black kettles & poured by hand (one color at a time) into molds. Thanks to machines & technology jelly belly can turn out as many as 1,200  kernels a second.

Brach's, as well as Jelly Belly, manufacture this waxy little candy producing approximately 9 billion pieces annually.
